It really is one of the most remarkable lenses I have ever used. To have 35mm/f2 and 150mm/f2.8 in one package is really something but it also renders OOF area beautifully, is sharp wide open, has lovely colour and focuses quickly and silently. As a previous poster said this is not a lazy man's lens as you have to put up with the weight and size but the results and versatility are worth it. Combined with the A1 this is the event/ documentary photographers dream, love it https://www.flickr.com/photos/viramati/albums/72177720296613388

It really is, one big wish though, is I would love the switch to be customizable to a focus limiter, I dream of it.

While on the topic of customization, it would be nice if Tamron could fix the "Focus preset" function so that pressing the button once restores AF after refocusing is done. Currently, I have to press the button twice to have AF back...
Still, this is a really nice feature to have when trying to focus on something close after having focus set to infinity (mirrorless first world problems, I know ) .

Sorry to bump this thread, I have a simple question about this lens. I recently picked one up from the b&s forum. The first thing I notice is that, each time you flip the lens, there is a 'tick' sound coming from the inside. It feels like a ring inside is moving down and up the barral. It happens on every single forcal length. Is this a normal sound?

Lenses with linear motors tend to exhibit this type of behavior.

Hello everyone,
what are your long term thoughts?
I am considering Tamron as a travel/walkaround lens in exchange for Sigmas 35/1.4 and 105/2.8.
Still my favorite lens for travel/walkaround with focus on people. The usual caveats apply:
1) you have to be ok with its size & weight
2) 35mm on the wide end
3) ghosting can be crazy at times
4) vignetting / swirl in bokeh.

There really is nothing quite like this lens (though Samyang are bringing out a cheaper version) and for what it packs into one lens is quite extraordinary. No lens is perfect but for a zoom I find it to have a Sony GM level of build and optical quality. If you can take the weight and size it's a no brainer. If the 2 lenses you mention are what you normally carry for travel I would go for it as you will get more range and all you will be missing is f1.4 at 35mm. Throw something like the very light and not bad optically Samyang 28mm/f2.8 and you nearly everything covered

I'm still in love with mine and for my team and individuals sports work, portraits, etc, it's a money maker. Colors, clarity, focus accuracy and zoom range are perfect for me. Previously I had to use a 24-70 and a 70-200 for this type of work. It required swapping lenses or using two bodies. Neither are good in a production team and individual environment with strobe trigger, cam ranger for sending to tablets, etc. One body and one lens and beautiful images. The only negative is that it is big and heavy and maybe at 35 not quite wide enough for some. It may not be the best lens for long hikes so not sure what you mean by "walkaround." I don't know anything about the 35 1.4 and 105 2.8 as a comparison though.
