So where is everybody verdict wise on these. I checked these out & read the posts. Myself having ridden the preset train to some disappointment,I’ve been leery. I acknowledge these are profiles and not presets...I think...
People happy or meh about them?

I really like them, especially the Fuji film emulations. I love the Velvia 50 emulation in particular. The profiles give my images a different look than the standard adobe profiles.

By chance does anyone have a Mono converted camera from Monochrome Imaging and some of the B&W profiles from Cobalt? My A7RII Mono died, I want to replace it, but if I can get great conversions from these it might be worth a much smaller net investment.

The red filter is astonishing for shots like this.... a Panasonic small all-around camera with Leica Monochrome sensibility!

@KarmaKramer

I never really warmed to presets – my experience has been that they may work stellar for an image... and then do fall completely apart for the next – but am growning very fond of Cobalt.
So much so that if people are in the pictures, their "Standard" preset becomes my go-to for my A7 III: I just love what it does to skin tones.

As to the film emulations: I only purchased the Fuji Film emulations to test.
I confess, at first was disapppointed: they seemed too heavy-handed, and made my images grotesque.
Then... I learned I could change the intensity! (how could I have missed it... )

Now, I am really, really liking the Fuji Pro 400 emulation for some images, especially dialled back a bit to 60-80: it gives images warmth, rendering them saturated and contrasted without the typical crushed or overcooked look one has by playing heavy handedly with the sliders.
It can make images rich and endearing. Personal opinion, of course, but for the first time I don't regret having purchased a preset.

And of course... once one likes them, then it is only a matter of time before purchasing the others...

I think this example does a great job in highlighting the benefit of a Monochrom native camera over conversations from color. In the last pair specifically, there are some similar tone areas, but there are also some places where the differences are huge. I also see big differences in detail between the two, even with the compressed JPG. Not a complaint but a simple observation.

I'm still considering adding C1 baseline profiles for my Leica Q to try it.

We can only manage colors and on this case we did in a very unique way of accuracy.

below is the spectral target of our Monochrome CMOS emulation, NOT a color checker SG but a target made by 15k patches.

https://i.gyazo.com/9f1ceb375ca6437e53660af08b27a336.png

Details is another matter and is not possible to compare 24mpx FULL sensor (no demosaicizing) with a 20, 24 mpx with 50% of pure structure surrounded by the "grey" rebuilding of details, borders etc.

That is not possible.

And is not possible to have colors when you invest 4k on a used Leica Monokrom as well.. just matter of priorities

That’s funny. We all see differently. I thought that the images were so similar in both conversion and composition that I was almost going to accuse posting the same images twice.

I’m sure we do all see a bit differently. I’m not suggesting they are bad conversions just a different look to my eyes. On a bigger screen, the last pair more than others, it seems very different to my eyes. Especially in the lighter tones. There is a certain hard to describe difference in overall look to me that I presume to be really showing a difference between a mono sensor and a color conversion. I think the emulation is quite good compared to most I’ve seen.

Looking on my phone the difference is not as apparent.

Thank you! I mentioned earlier in the thread that I was disappointed with the Kodachrome emulations, finding them heavy-handed as you did with the Fuji ones. But I hadn't noticed the intensity slider either. It was probably explained in the documentation that neither of us read. Now I like the Kodachrome emulations just as much as the other ones I've purchased.

So far I have purchased two basic packs for two Sony cameras and the Monochrom CCD Emulation. I also didn't notice the slider. So I just checked it out. Saw the slider bar but it's disabled. I can't adjust it. The pointer is fixed at the middle of the bar.

Is this expected? Is this slider bar only work for some emulations?

Thanks.

That's correct. The slider bar appears to be enabled for colour film and digital camera emulations but disabled for monochrome emulations. It's disabled in the Monochrom CMOS emulations too. In addition I have both the Kodachrome and CCD Fever packs and the slider bar appears with all the Kodachrome emulations and all the CCD camera emulations except the M9 BW High & Standard emulations in the CCD Fever pack.

I am interested in the Leica B&W emulations on offer here, but I am not really familiar with the differences between the various Leica monochrome implementations.

Can someone help me a bit with distinguishing between the image characteristics and qualities of the Leica Monochrom CCD Emulation and the Leica Monochrom CMOS Emulation?

Thanks.

I mean, it's probably the depth of field difference, look at the trees in the last two. I could see that affecting perceived contrast too. The brightness values are a little different, but nothing that can't be matched with a few more seconds.

They are just different, a different spectral sensibility makes the difference as their original cameras.

about ccd vs cmos... is a long journey, about the differences only in b&w signatures of both cameras, there are many articles, not so many specifically writen in the output quality of the mono rendering (almost any article write just about the faster new m246, the High iso.. silly no one is writing asbout the specral sensibility....)
I found this interesting

Thanks, the example and the article are helpful.

It would be good to have more side by side comparisons of the two Monochrom emulations, since they are so closely related but still different.

We always follow feedbacks, and about our film emulation, we delayed the Kodak pack in order to be able to make everyone happy...

Now our next film emulation packs (and perhaps in the next months the updates for the older ones) will include for any single film emulation:

LINEAR (linear info from the sensor with film emulation applied)
FLAT (base exp curve, no contrast)
STD (full exp curve and contrast)

so, for this picture on Adobe std
https://i.imgur.com/8hM3bDE.jpg

we will have for our incoming "Kodak Ektachrome"

LINEAR
https://i.imgur.com/BYwkO89.jpg

FLAT
https://i.imgur.com/SvFY8J6.jpg

STD
https://i.imgur.com/E9PlJty.jpg

so everyone will find his starting point for his favored development method: who loves an early starting point in order to be able to use his own curve will love the Linear; who loves the minimum amount of time on Lightroom, will start from the STD and some further adjustments before the final export in jpeg.
Just imagine the above starting points, and the freedom to recover highlights, shadows and everything you always do on LR with our color signature for the specific film emulation.

That's just to give more optionss to our customers using our color emulations.

In this picture the contrast is a bit too high on the std film curve, I want the color signature but I am not happy about this result.

so I will start from LINEAR
https://i.imgur.com/GhyWpXE.jpg

this is the cleaner starting point, the FULL range of my sensor available without any hidden ( by Adobe or us) contrast curve .

and with my recovering and curve..

a nice result, with the wanted color signature and a lovely contrast.

@Ulysseita - I've been following this thread with great interests. If I interpret how the profile calibration works, it means it'll extract the sensor raw data and convert them into a standard calibration.

In case of the M9 I find e.g. it often shift neutral grey colors (say a section in my bedroom that I know very well) with some cyan cast, even with Adobe standard, and my other much newer camera never or rarely do that. I was under impression that it was how the sensor rendered right from the get go so if the cast wasn't there in the raw data on modern cmos sensors, will it be even possible to recreate the color signature with the M9 DNG profile for other camera?

I also find the M9 to have a very unique tonal curve, while some limited dynamic range, I often need to pull down the highlight quite a bit to match the M9 highlight roll off. And that interesting deep inky blacks without being mushy. I'm supposed these are also bring emulated?
