Darn, I'm still after this lens.

The 5.5cm Micro-Nikkor has a thin barrel lip overhanging its rear mount. The lip moves ever closer to the camera the further out you move away from macro distance. On the Df, the clearance lets you get to just over 3 feet before you run out of space. That's probably about the distance I was at for this shot. Not that there's a burning need to use this lens at infinity.

Hi, gang. Here a few shots (from a recent Northern California trip) of a very interesting structure in the community of Sea Ranch.

It's a nondenominational chapel that was designed by San Diego architect James Hubbell and constructed by local artisans in the 1980's. The building's lines and its combination of cedar, teak, stone, brass, copper and stained glass elements are unusual and very eye-catching.

Unfortunately, as you can see in the third photo, plywood has been placed in two sections of the front door where stained glass used to be. In May, someone broke the glass, entered the chapel after hours and made off with the collection box. Very bad karma, to be sure. The foundation that operates the chapel is raising funds to replace the stained glass.

Cheers,
Jeff

UPDATE:

I received some really good news from my surgeon a little while ago. After his team and the MRI team at UVA reviewed my scan, they do not believe that the lesions are malignant. They are fairly sure it has to do with arterial blood flow following the surgery. I have to go back in three months for another scan. If the spots have not grown, then their diagnosis was right.

Thank you all for your concern and kind words. Iíve said it before, this is a special place in cyber-space.

Leighton, congrats on the wonderful news!

Jeff, what a shame about the chapel near Sea Ranch. I've taken pictures there too, but with AF lenses on a DX body. Cant't post them here. It was just before sunset, and there was a bobcat hanging out on the grounds and crouching on one of the benches.

Ken, the bobcat at the chapel, just before sunset, must have been a great photo op.

As you know, it's a pretty special spot. The damage was a real sin, but it sounds like it will be repaired later this year.

my nikon 135mm f3.5 Q LTM arrived - it was a bargain at $120 (or $130, I've forgotten). It sort of exposes the concept of lens gendering - because it's a nikon lens made in the Leica screw mount.

this is it next to the 135mm f3.5 the ais version - it's a bit taller but it's thinner. I've included the only pic I've been able to get in focus with it in the last 2 days.

Scott - I'm a total sucker for those panos - wonderful

Steve - whatever forays we might have made in lens gendering/adapting/filtering you have taken the craziness to a whole other level with that macro rig. Do you need a licence for that thing?

Peter - I presume you're going to say that you shot that 1/13s racing pic hand held? No - actually, spare me. I really don't want to hear it - I've been trying to focus the 135mm at 1/1000s with the help of an EVF with magnification and focus peaking and I got one shot in 2 days so I can't hear how you nail focus at 1/13s on a speeding object....I just can't.

Leighton and Philippe - I wanted to say something but I've already commented on Flickr. Philippe - welcome back.I'm guessing you're going to string out your holiday pics one at a time for the next couple of weeks. Fine. Although that withholding streak in your nature is unsettling.

Thanks for all the nice comments and concern. They mean a lot.

Last night we went out. Mostly cloudy landscapes and lots of light pollution. No perseids here...

This was the only keeper I got after some pp. Night photography really is a challenge.

Chris, hopefully you find a 5.5cm Micro soon!

Jeff, very interesting architecture in that chapel, and too bad about the damage done to it.

Jim, delicious looking tomatoes.

Ben, you finally got the 135mm RF going, I presume on the M10. Tell us more about your experience with that lens. Makes me think mine needs to come out of its hibernation. That pic is Phillipesque, but still with the Ben style, fantastic! The 135 LTM was meant for the older thread mount Leicas, and so on your M, there's still some level of gendering going on, I believe

Peter (Knysna, looks like a relaxing time in the coffee shop).

Colin, cool closeup with the 55 1.2.

Kristian, looks like you had cloud cover, that sure doesn't help in your quest for night sky shots.

Peter (Wisconsin), your racing pic using ND8 reminded me of the upcoming eclipse here. Was it Ram that's planning to be in the totality path? Hope to see pics from him. I believe its partial eclipse around here too, I have a supposedly solar-safe filter (and paper glasses) ready, in case the clouds here part enough to see the partial occlusion.
