JS,

I mostly watch silently here though I find myself increasingly studying the concept that the digital negative can be so much more than an "objective" (there is no such thing) representation of something.

I find many of your pieces (I suggest that's what they are.) compelling. As a novice in this field, would you be willing to share with me some of the basics of how you get to your final image?

I believe I see an underlying/base image. It is then tweaked, twirled, moved, smeared, etc. Do you have a basic order you use as you move? I'm sure that where you finish is unlikely to be where you thought you were going when you started.

Thank you,

Robert

thanks for commenting.

the fact that there is no order or rules or filters is
the real starting point. it all springs from those
artists, mostly abstract expressionsts, that one finds
appealing...and color is a major springboard too.

there is a scarcity of dots and a deliberate attempt to force
the viewer into connecting his/her own dots...this insures that
folks will never see what i see.

instinct tells you when to start and when to stop.

the tools in corel painter are perfect for this sort of work and for
a few years now my primary tool has been a pallet knife.

thanks rags...i wouldn't really call what is seen as liquefy...muxing/marbling perhaps are better terms for what goes into this.

lots of pushing color around for sure no matter what term is used.

Jordan,

Thanks for giving me the tips. I think I get that you are working towards a vision - though sometimes I'm sure - that initial sense evolves as the work progresses.

Big take away for me? See. Start. Keep starting. The tools depend on what you learn and what comes out.

Thanks again.
