p.1 #1 · Butorides virescens, just fishin'

Butorides virescens(greenie) is a skilled hunter even in the muck.
I swear these guys see right through the thick layer of algae
and duckweed.

400mm f/5.6L w/Canon 1.4x, ISO 400m most about 1/500 sec

#1 over there, over there, I see movement, about 10" down

Dave, didn't you know that Greenies have an active sound navigation and ranging system, also known as Sonar. They use it to locate fish underwater> They use an ultrasonic freequence and that's the reason why we don't hear anything.
No. I just made that up! You would think it is true the way they can "see" fish trought that pea soup.
Excellent sequence David! sharp detail and beautiful colors, especially the "pea soup"
Socrate

P.S. Got a word from Canon they are going to calibrate my lens for free even if it is out of warranty.

See, this is why it's not a good idea to read people's comments. I was believing Socrate with his sonar nonsense Well, I've often wondered how your Greenies were able to catch food and how they maintain their balance. Maybe I'll never know, but I do know that your images are special, Dave

Nice set Dave.

Dave,

This defies the laws of gravity, pure and simple - Quack!

I think you used trick photography to capture this alleged sequence

Very nice series Dave. I really like your B&W textured effort as well. Don't usually go for that stuff but you did it very well.

Looks like good hunters Dave. How are they manage to stay so clean in the muck. Are you washing them before each capture or what.

You're right, Dave, how the HECK could he have ever spotted that midst all that green muck? Birds never cease to amaze me. All beautiful captures but I expect nothing-less from you. Thanks once again for all the "pp" help, perhaps some of it will sink into my addled brain...

Best Wishes,
Steve
