p.1 #1 · Shot my wife with my Rokkor 58

Getting better with the focus on the 20d. Out of ten photos that I shot these were my favorites.

All shot wide open. Mainly to practice getting something in focus with this lens, but also because I like to shoot that way.

Hi John - - I have a Rokkor 58/1.4 and an 85/1.7 that I'd love to use on my EOS cameras - - do you have a link to a website that tells how to convert the mount? Is it a hard and/or reversable process?

Thanks,
John

Thanks for the positive responses.

Cogitech, I originally had your shot in my head when I started shooting. I climbed a ladder to do the shooting. Wish I had a 5d. I figure if I say it enough my camera will turn into one.

Paul, Please shoot your wife with the lens, I predict she will be pleased. And show the photos please.

Johnecon, I am the wrong person to ask about converting other minolta rokkor lenses. I have seen that an 85 1.7 can be done on these forums but not sure about the 1.4.

Cogitech probablly will answer your question here shortly. He's the conversion master.

The MC 58/1.4 can be converted almost identically as per my 58/1.2 howto http://www.cogitech.ca/Rokkor/index.html

The only difference is you'll want to use an OM-EOS adapter for the new mount, because it has a larger mouth, which will prevent aperture pin issues.

The conversion of the 85/1.7 is quite different, but not too difficult. I plan to make a howto page for that one, too.

Instead of making it so you can never use your lens and spending time grinding and retrofitting, I was linked to this by the Manual Focus forum people
http://digitalrokkor.altervista.org/techdetails.html

This is a Flange which you can replace the EF mount for a MD/MC one. I'm going to purchase one and be able to go through my set of Rokkors without worry of infinity. That is when I start my collection

John
This is the flange on the camera itself. If you were to do this, you could only mount minolta lenses to your camera. Well I do know that there are m42 to minolta adapters so you could mount m42 also. This is not recomended for the 5D, unless maybe you shave the mirror. Good thing is you could always put the eos flange back on the camera.

Are you using an aftermarket focus screen? I'm using the KatzEye, and can heartily recommend it.

Marcel vaneard,

I am using a hoada fu focus screen, and am not sure that it is helping me at all yet.

Could you elaborate on heartily recommend. Does it help you focus only in the center of the screen? Are you using a crop camera or a full frame? When shooting wide open from say 10-15 feet, can you focus on someones eyes?

Thanks,
John

Tootalew,

The rokkor lens is my only minolta lens. Bought it as an alternative to the 50L or 85L for my canon camera.

John

>Not the center only - I find the screen beneficial on all parts, including focusing on areas outside the circles, but keep in mind that for the most part of my photographing life I have used MF only.

>20D - 1.6x crop (soon receiving a 1D hopefully with 1.3x crop)

>Depends - with a 35mm f3.5 not easily, but easy enough with a 50mm (like an 80) which is anywhere from f1.4 to f5.6-8 and my 105 (like a 168) anywhere from f2.5 to f8-11

I have some posts with examples of different photos, showing how well focusing works out for me. What's more - my last four or five weddings I've done totally manually focused...

Leon Noel,

Too bad you won't be able to shoot your own wedding.

Lovely shots, and thank you for sharing.
