Bit too dark for me (and the light on the knee is a problem I think.)

I like the composition but your main subject is "hiding" in the shadow.

And the dog should be facing the camera

Nice capture. A bit of shadow recovery and possibly a b&w treatment might work.

I like it alot. I especially like the dog off to the right resting in the shadows. The light on his knee doesn't bother me at all.

I Hope you don't mind but I took a shot this photo. I did this in a couple of minutes by creating 2 layers then deleting all of the parts in the top layer I did not want to brighten. Next I took the top layer and adjusted the exposure +2.54, Offset -0.0059, and Gamma Correction 0.96. I also reduced the red saturation by -19 to get rid of some of the orange on his arms and legs.

If you're not happy with my working on the picture I'll delete it.

I really like the picture as it is.... I get the look of a man and his dog taking a break from the heat of the sun.... No need to brighten things up.... The sky, mountains, and soil look normal to me.... The darkness of the man and dog show them cooling off.... JMHO....

I much prefer the brightened image - though I'd take the white steps back down about a stop and a half. Otherwise, very nice image (both versions!)
